Each year, the governments in each of the four nations of the UK decide who should receive the flu vaccine for free. They do this to try and reduce the winter pressures on the NHS and to best try and protect people from flu. Over the last couple of years the JCVI (Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation) advise the government on who should receive the flu vaccine.
Each year, they determine which age groups they should include, and who is at risk, so who should be eligible for a free vaccine through the flu National Immunisation Programme. In children, these include vaccines that are given in GP practices and vaccines that are given in schools.
